Best time to visit Ma Da Forest for a birding trip: December to May
Ma Da Forest is one of the best birding hotspots in Southern Vietnam, located in Dong Nai province and approximately around 110 km to the south of Cat Tien National Park. This area is known by other name "Dong Nai Culture And Nature Reserve".
It has the unique ecosystem of the Southeast region of the country and is home to rich wild flora and fauna. There are numerous rare species listed in the IUCN Red List. Many of the animals and plants in this area are critically threatened. The total land area of the Reserve is over 100,300 ha, including approximately 68,000 ha of forest land and more than 32,000 ha surface area of Tri An Lake.
In addition to high biological diversity, the Reserve used to be a revolutionary base with a famously known as “War Zone D” during two resistance wars. There are 03 relics which were designated as national relics, namely the Central Committee for South Vietnam, the Headquarters for Eastern region Party Committee and Suoi Linh Tunnel. Besides the traditional education of patriotism, these relics also contribute to tourism development.
With the outstanding value of nature and culture, the Reserve was designated as Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2011.
